  • Courage

Another gem I would like to share from one of my MK galpals:

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth’s rite of passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he is a MAN. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience because each lad must come into manhood on his own. The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man! Finally, after a horrific night, the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone. Even when we don’t know it, our Heavenly Father is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

    Moral of the Story:

Just because you can’t see God, doesn’t mean God is not there.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

    ~ 2 Corinthians 5:7 ~

If you liked this story, please share it.

If not, perhaps you took off your blindfold before dawn.

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “l’ll try again tomorrow.”

  • I get SOOOO steamed when non Christians say Christians have BLIND FAITH. There faith is what is blind because they want to SEE something…when they do they don’t believe it. I had asked Donkey if yall knew anyone from or went to Westlake Hills Pres Church and he said yall knew some people there. Do yall know one of the assistant youth ministers who’s name is CJ. Thats what we called him here in Memphis when he was in school with my son. Hope you have a blessed week

  • That was great! I have spent many hours “blindfolded” and praying for day. To know my Lord is right there with me is what calms my heart and gives me hope.

  • Very good…I love the verse Walk by faith not by sight..it means so mush more when we are scared and feel  alone.

  • Great story! At church we sing the song “Walk By Faith” and I LOVE it. “I walk by faith, not by sight, if it’s all wrong it will be alright, because someone greater, is watching over me………..” God Bless your Monday!

  • Yes, I have heard this although I don’t remember where. It is worth reading about again! Thanks for sharing.

  • I never tire of reading this! Each time I do, I see something more in it! Thank you for coming by earlier. I hope to be around more often, but we have a dear friend who is dealing with a serious illness, and it’s taken quite a bit of our time the past few weeks. I know I’ve missed a lot here on your site, and I need to catch up! You have a great day, and thanks again for dropping over, and for posting this … I think I should share it with that dear friend of ours!!

    Blessings,

  • What a beautiful story!  Have you ever noticed that people will faith seem to be much happier than those who keep searching for a meaning? If only they could just relax and let it unfold.

  • Dear Flash,

Thank you for your recent visit and comment.

This is one of those passages like “footprints” (“The single set of footprints was when I was carrying you.”). Very inspiriational, and so true.

We are encompassed and enveloped by the Universal. We can believe either in a personification of “God” or of a more abstract concept, but I simply can’t understand the “logic” of people who deny a connecting influence in existence altogether. I can’t look at a flower or a sunset or any of God’s creations and not believe.

However some of us have open eyes and some are still afraid and in the dark! Here’s hoping they will soon open their eyes as well.
