Who Knew?
This 20 minute video really gave me a bit of a jolt. In the states we have OSHA laws that protect workers just like the laws in Canada do, but our labeling and warning regulations (or lack thereof) regarding home cleaning products are also very much the same. I shudder to think that my efforts at keeping a clean home may have contributed to our daughter’s breathing problems….

That’s why I’m seriously considering going all natural. Even simple bleach gives me a serious headache.
Thanks for that video. Definitely eye-opening!
The most crucial warning is don’t mix the toilet cleaner with another stuff (that gives off a poisonous gas)
Chlorine is a necessary evil because it cleans and disinfects stuff really well.
And of course some pesticides will effect your pets….
Otherwise the big clue is headaches and breathing problems that come and go mysteriously…
When I was pregnant with my second child (who is turning 9 in a few days), I did some research just like this. Based on my finding, which mirrored what was in that video, we switched all our cleaners to a company that uses natural and organic ingredients AND lists every ingredient on each bottle. I also sell it to those interested. It is called melaleuca and it is great stuff. Check out the website to see all the stuff they have. http://www.melaleuca.com
WOW! Thanks! I sent the link to my daughter. Kinda makes me glad I am not a clean freak! LOL! Uh, I don’t like dirt and mess, but I am not into constantly disinfecting every surface. In fact, in Denmark, you can’t buy all that antibacterial stuff.
that is why I use baking soda and white vinegar…cleans, disenfects, de greases, clears minor clogs, works in the washing machine, for your dishes, walls, floors, windows…lol…it will clean most anything…and the baking soda can be put on with a powder puff for deorant…lots of good uses for that there stuff…lol…smile
Don’t be too hard on yourself. You didn’t know beforehand. (((((HUGS)))))
@m_elmer_48 - @IamDonnaC - These cleaning products are great and cheap too. The investment is best for the health not just the pocketbook!!
The companies don’t want us knowing.
I will take good old dirt anytime…
My dad said you had to eat a peck of dirt before you die.
I read Simple Abundabce years ago and still remember the principles. It is an excellent book. I love the Daybook format
Yeowch! Yeah, not pleasant at all!
RYC: thanks for the thoughts and the prayers! How are you doing?
I sweep everyday but there is no fear of cleaning products killing anyone in my house as seldom as they are used!!
Really surprising isn’t it…………hugs to you and you are a great mom……
@Papillon_Mom - i know what you mean
@Miss_Spunky91 - glad you found it of value
@PPhilip - the worst combo being chlorine bleach & ammonia. the fumes are VERY toxic…
@IamDonnaC - sounds like a plan…
@DanishDoll - we use antibacterial hand/dish soap & i swipe the counter with one of those wipes if i just had raw meat on it, but i wouldn’t really call us clean freaks any more now that the kids are grown. not sure what will happen if we ever have grandkids, though…
@m_elmer_48 - those all work very well, don’t they?
@Mother_Moonie - there are worse things i could kick myself about if i wanted to–like the fact that the entire time i was carrying that child, i worked at a research lab that i later learned was storing low level nuclear waste on site…
@theprettysister - good to know
@Kowpatty - so true. that would seriously cut into the profit margin…
@lindaintennessee - it certainly is a lot less of a hassle, isn’t it?
@maddlines - i remember hearing something like that, too. the simple abundance is a bit like chess–easy to learn difficult to master…
@meganbarnard - kinda scary–especially with little ones around! i am feeling just fine now. unless i poke myself at one of the incision sites. i forget i even had surgery these days…
@seedsower - you sweep every day? it only happens around here about once a week! people in this house are probably pretty safe, too…
@LadyofAvalonLand - thank you for the encouragement. hugs to you, too
We have more dirt than most with the greenhouse!
